Abstract

Study of theater with the perception paradigm of communication in modern theater in Indonesia id rarely done with communication or approach. One the objectivies of this research entited "Perceptions ofModern Theatre Critic in Printed Media" is to the perceptions of modern theater critic Putu Wijaya, Bakdi Soemanto and Faruk HT based on the discourse of the theater criticsm in the print media of the performance of the "Orde Tabung" (2095- ...)by Gandrik Theatre in Yogyakarta and Jakarta in 1988. The result show : (1) perception of the qualified critique of modern theatre develops the audience's perception; (2) the work of qualified theatre criticsm can develop the attractiveness and knowledge on meaning of works of modern theatre and relevant to community supporters; and (3) good works of criticism either in newspapers on magazine can the subject of discourse studies in order to obtain the full meaning of theater performance.
