Abstract

Storm Arwen's musical work was created based on the author's experiences with Hurricane Arwen in England. The musical idea of this work is taken from natural phenomena that occur during storms. The formulation of the idea of creation in the discussion of this work includes the application of minimalism techniques to musical works and processing the structure and form of descriptive music programs to describe the storm that occurred. The process carried out by the author in creating the work "Badai Arwen" is to formulate the idea of creation by observing and exploring various musical works and relevant literature works, exploring the possibilities of instruments that will be used in the work, designing the concept of the work of each part, determining instrumentation, cultivating detailed works, works using minimalism techniques, writing works using the Sibelius application and processing sound results using the Cubase 10 Pro application. The work "Storm Arwen" consists of three parts which are the phases that occur in the storm. The first part is entitled “Wind Storm” which uses shifting technique in minimalism. The second part is entitled “Thunderstorm” which uses the phasing technique. The last part is entitled “Snow Storm” which uses the harmony loop technique. In addition, this work only uses 7 tones, which serve to limit the melodic material so that minimal musical characteristics are achieved. Karya musik badai Arwen diciptakan berdasarkan pengalaman penulis yang mengalami kejadian Badai Arwen di Inggris. Ide musikal dari karya ini diangkat dari fenomena-fenomena alam yang terjadi pada saat badai berlangsung. Rumusan ide penciptaan dalam pembahasan karya ini meliputi pengaplikasian teknik minimalisme pada karya musik dan pengolahan struktur dan bentuk musik program deskriptif untuk penggambaran badai yang terjadi. Proses yang dilakukan penulis dalam menciptakan karya “Badai Arwen” adalah merumuskan ide penciptaan dengan melakukan observasi dan eksplorasi berbagai karya musik dan karya pustaka yang relevan, mengeskplorasi kemungkinan instrumen yang akan digunakan dalam karya, merancang konsep karya tiap bagiannya, menentukan instrumentasi, penggarapan karya detail karya dengan menggunakan teknik minimalisme, penulisan hasil karya dengan menggunakan aplikasi Sibelius dan pengolahan hasil suara menggunakan aplikasi Cubase 10 Pro. Karya “Badai Arwen” terdiri dari tiga bagian yang merupakan fase-fase yang terjadi pada badai tersebut. Bagian Pertama berjudul “Badai Angin” yang menggunakan teknik shifting pada minimalisme. Bagian kedua berjudul “Badai Petir” yang menggunakan teknik phasing. Bagian terakhir berjudul “Badai Salju” yang menggunakan teknik harmony loop. Selain itu, karya ini hanya menggunakan 7 nada saja yang berfungsi untuk melimitasi material melodi sehingga tercapainya karakteristik musik minimal.
