Abstract

This research examines the phenomenon of musical hybridity in the Ganube music group as a representation of contemporary Batak Pop music dynamics in response to globalization. The study focuses on how Ganube's creative process involves reinterpreting traditional Toba Batak music through modern arrangements, incorporating traditional instruments (sulim, taganing, hasapi, sarune bolon, and hesek) alongside contemporary ones, while exploring harmonic possibilities without compromising cultural authenticity. The research reveals how Ganube effectively utilizes digital platforms and social media not only to reach a wider audience but also to build relationships and develop collaborations with various stakeholders. Findings demonstrate that musical hybridity serves as an effective strategy for preserving and promoting Toba Batak cultural identity while adapting to global musical trends and contemporary audience preferences. This approach enables the group to maintain cultural relevance while successfully navigating the challenges and opportunities presented by globalization.
