Abstract

The use of plants as natural dyes in textiles has been known since ancient times, especially in making batik. The area that uses natural dyes from mangroves is Cilacap Regency, Leksana Batik Jaya is one of the batik centers that uses mangrove fruit as the basic material for coloring batik. In addition to being used as a dye, mangrove plants are also the main idea in creating batik motifs, especially the fruit, leaves, stems, flowers and roots of mangroves. To optimize the design, the sashiko or traditional embroidery from Japan will be applied to clothing. The approach method used by the author in creating this final assignment is the aesthetic approach method according to Artini Kusmiati and the creation method according to Hawkins which goes through 3 stages, namely exploration, improvisation and formation or composition. The theoretical basis used by the author is aesthetic theory and ergonomic theory. The stages carried out by the author start from the stage of making patterns, tracing motifs, cutting fabrics, batik, coloring, sewing, and decorating clothes. The work produced in this final assignment is six pieces of casual clothing, with a combination of natural dye and sashiko techniques. The combination of batik and sashiko motifs produces casual clothing that is comfortable, modern, and supports environmental sustainability.
