Abstract

The musical work "KRUK," scored for a brass ensemble, is the result of sonic experimentation utilizing non-musical materials derived from acoustic noise effects in the form of pitch inaccuracies (“cacat nada”) caused by technical failures of the french horn. This phenomenon is frequently considered disruptive to the aesthetics of Western classical music as it disorganies the standards of tonal purity. This issue stimulated a compositional concept to manipulate these noise effects into valid musical elements within the piece. The creative process is grounded in Alan Belkin's composition theory, which guides the transformation of explored cracked note characteristics into structured and measurable compositional elements, specifically surprise, progression, and climax. The methodology employed in this study is practice-led research, encompassing the stages of exploration, analysis, and experimentation. The creative outcomes demonstrate that noise resulting from technical failures can be successfully transformed into musical materials that support the formation of new atmospheres, timbres, and textures within the structural fabric of the work. These findings confirm that acoustic anomalies, which are initially deemed disruptive, possess significant artistic potential when intentionally and systematically integrated into a composition.
