Abstract

Craft, like other art domains, has experienced such developments and shifts, especially in the spatial aspect. Craft work is no longer only in the domestic space, but also penetrates the public space, as shown in the work of the academician-craftsman Timbul Raharjo. This of course has an influence on the dynamics of crafts, especially in the city of Yogyakarta. Especially in a pandemic situation where people need qualified artwork in public spaces as a stress reliever. The aim of this research is to find out the aesthetic aspects of Timbul Raharjo's craftwork in the public spaces of Yogyakarta, especially in the intra-aesthetic context. In addition, it is also to find out how these works contribute to the intra and extra aesthetic side of the city of Yogyakarta and how it affects the quality of life for city residents. The research method applied was interdisciplinary, namely ethnographic aesthetics. Results of this research is a positive impact of the works of craft existence in public space of Yogyakarta. It is not only having a function to enhance the aesthetic of the city, but also can be used as a distraction for its citizen’ stress due to the pandemic.
