Abstract
In wayang stories, one of the most famous great characters is Arjuna. Arjuna is known to have won many wars with the Pandavas. Arjuna is also known as a character who has succeeded in many marriages because of his personality and good looks. From his many victories in war and his success in conducting many marriages, Arjuna is considered one of the most exalted figures to be given the nicknames lananging jagat and wanodya sulistya jinatukrama. This study seeks to question the "majesty" of Arjuna by reviewing other motives behind the many marriages carried out by Arjuna such as political interests. To answer other motives behind many marriages, this study focuses on the Ciptoning Mintorogo play by focusing on the form of marriage and the meaning of Arjuna's marriage. The research was conducted by comparing the events of Arjuna's marriage with the marriage categories of Helen Creese. This comparison is done with the aim of finding other motives from Helen Creese's general categories. The analysis of the form of marriage presents another meaning. To find another meaning of Arjuna's marriage event, Paul Recoeur's hermeneutic analysis was used by analyzing the text and the chain of events. Based on the results of hermeneutic analysis, it can be concluded that another meaning of Arjuna's marriage in the lakon Ciptoning Mintorogo is Arjuna's political effort to gain support and win the Baratayudha war.
