Abstract

“Hey Jude” adalah single terlaris dari The Beatles yang berhasil mendunia dan menghibur banyak penikmat musik. Hal ini dapat memunculkan pertanyaan yang berhubungan dengan makna lagu yang mendunia tersebut. Oleh karena itu, peneliti memilih untuk melakukan penelitian yang berjudul “Kajian Semiotika Lirik dan Instrumental pada Lagu “Hey Jude” Karya The Beatles”. Tujuan peneliti dalam memilih topik tersebut adalah untuk mendapatkan pemahaman mengenai makna yang terdapat dalam lagu “Hey Jude” yang tidak hanya memberikan makna lagu tersebut, tetapi lebih dilengkapi dengan penjelasan hubungan antara makna lagu dengan lirik dan hal-hal lain yang terdapat dalam struktur lagu tersebut. Metode penelitian yang akan digunakan dalam penelitian adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan objek formal yaitu penelitian semiotika lagu “Hey Jude”, dan objek primer yaitu lagu “Hey Jude”. Teori/konsep yang akan digunakan dalam penelitian adalah teori analisis bentuk musik Leon Stein, teori musik Benward, dan teori semiotika Saussure. Inti dari teori yang akan digunakan adalah Sound-Image (Signifier) dan Concept (Signified). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa makna dari lagu “Hey Jude” adalah sebuah upaya untuk menghibur seseorang yang sedang mengalami kesulitan dalam hidupnya. Penulis lagu meminta seseorang yang disebut dengan nama “Jude” untuk selalu berusaha dan tidak memendam kegelisahannya. Penelitian ini dapat membantu dalam pemahaman mengenai bagaimana penelitian semiotika dapat membantu dalam memahami makna karya seni musik. "Hey Jude" is the best-selling single from The Beatles which has gone global and entertained many music lovers. This can raise questions related to the meaning of this world-famous song. Therefore, the researcher chose to conduct research entitled "Semiotic Study of the Lyrics and Instrumentals in the Song "Hey Jude" by The Beatles". The researcher's aim in choosing this topic is to gain an understanding of the meaning contained in the song "Hey Jude" which not only provides the meaning of the song, but is further equipped with an explanation of the relationship between the meaning of the song and the lyrics and other things contained in the structure of the song. The research method that will be used in the research is descriptive qualitative with a formal object, namely research on the semiotics of the song "Hey Jude", and the primary object is the song "Hey Jude". The theories/concepts that will be used in the research are Leon Stein's theory of musical form analysis, Benward's music theory, and Saussure's semiotic theory. The core of the theory that will be used is Sound-Image (Signifier) and Concept (Signified). The research results show that the meaning of the song "Hey Jude" is an attempt to comfort someone who is experiencing difficulties in their life. The songwriter asked someone called "Jude" to always try and not harbor his anxiety. This research can help in understanding how semiotic research can help in understanding the meaning of musical works of art.
